Summers days with Hayman’s Original Gin

Picture the scene, a lovely summer balmy summer evening, cooling down with a refreshing gin and tonic. How idyllic! So, luckily we were sent a little package recently to recreate our own summer days with Hayman’s Original Gin.

Gin and tonics have had quite a resurgence in the last few years and there is a huge range out there for people to try and we were very excited to try these ones.

Gin has usually been drunk in a tall glass with lots of ice and tonic splashed all over it. How much gin, or tonic, or even ice, is dependent on each drinker’s individual taste. So practice with different amounts, if you have never tried it before.

Gin’s have also grown in popularity with the cocktail industry. There are a whole host of different gin based cocktails and some of them are really delicious. Perfect for any celebration, night out, or even if you aren’t a big drinker and like to have more ‘taste’ to your drinks. Having a cocktail after a long day at work, relaxing in the summer breeze is a perfect end to a day!

Hayman’s Original Gin

Hayman’s still make their award winning gin in the same traditional way, by hand, in London. They have been making gin for over 150 years so know exactly what they are doing.

If you fancy spicing up your gin and tonic into a refreshing and delicious cocktail here are a few quick and easy recipes:

Hayman’s English Ruby Fizz

Makes: 1 cocktail

  • 50ml Hayman’s London Dry Gin
  • 20ml lime juice
  • 10ml Grenadine
  • 4-8 fresh raspberries or raspberry syrup
  • Ginger Ale
  • Lime or raspberries to garnish

  1. Fill a highball glass with large ice cubes
  2. Combine all the ingredients (apart from the ginger ale and the garnish) in a shaker with some ice
  3. Shake for around 15 seconds
  4. Double strain into the highball allowing the liquid to run over the ice
  5. Top with the ginger ale (to your taste)
  6. Add the garnish
  7. Enjoy!

Hayman’s Victorian Mojito

Makes: 1 cocktail

  • 50ml Hayman’s London Dry Gin
  • 25ml freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 20ml sugar syrup
  • Tonic water or soda water
  • Mint leaves

  1. Fill highball glass with crushed ice and mint leaves
  2. Pour in the Hayman’s London Dry Gin
  3. Add the lime juice and sugar syrup
  4. Mix vigorously ensuring the ingredients are well mixed
  5. Top with tonic water or soda water
  6. Garnish with the mint
  7. Enjoy!

The ingredients can be tweaked to suit your taste (I’m not a big fan of ginger ale, so I only put a small splash in my Ruby Fizz!)

We really enjoyed the taste of Hayman’s Original Gin, it was a delight to drink and we could get the hints of cinnamon and orange peel (there are lots of other spices too!). Summer is the perfect time to experiement and try the different cocktails and flavours combinations. Give them a go, you’ll be surprised.

What goes well with a nice gin and tonic? Well lots of things really, but have a look at one of my cakes and you may get a taste for baking too!

Always drinks responsibly……
